1990 'Rhythm of Love (#9 UK 11/1990, #10 AUS)
The album was a departure from the bubblegum pop music of its predecessors, and attempted to present a more stylish and contemporary dance sound. Several of its tracks became popular hits in the clubs of the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Asia. The album reached number nine on the UK album charts and was certified platinum (300,000).

The album was later re-released as a special "Gold Version" in May 1991 containing three bonus remixes and went on to be certified platinum in both the UK and Australia.
New Direction. New Image
With the new musical direction Minogue now had the opportunity to break from the mold which her record company had created for her. Heavily influenced by her then boyfriend Michael Hutchence, lead singer of INXS, Minogue explored and presented herself in a more sexual and raunchier manner which the media dubbed as 'SexKylie' as fishnet tights and dark eye makeup quickly replaced the big hair and christmas ornament-like earrings.

1991 Let's Get To It (#15 UK 10/1991, #13 AUS)
This album was produced by Mike Stock and Pete Waterman and attempted a departure from the style of dance music that she was known for. This album provided Minogue with two ballads that became hit singles, and some tracks showed a strong influence of Latin dance music.
The album was Minogue's first album to peak outside the British top 10, reaching number 15 in October 1991. It is certified gold (100,000).

1994 Kylie Minogue (#4 UK 10/1994, #2 AUS)
It reached #4 on the UK Charts, and was certified gold for sales of 100,000. The hit "Confide In Me" was the most successful song on the album reaching number two on the UK charts and spending four weeks at number one in her native Australia.
The album was Minogue's first outside of the production team of Stock Aitken Waterman. In an attempt to broaden her fan base and extend herself as an artist, she took an active role in planning the album, and sought out a diverse group of artists to collaborate with her. Music critics generally praised Minogue for her objective, however most reviews described the end result as disjointed and disappointing.

On the album cover, Minogue attempted to present herself as a serious artist, rather than the vampish sex kitten she had begun to personify. While the accompanying videos were among her sexiest and most overt, the album cover featured black and white photography of Minogue wearing horn rimmed glasses, and a conservative trouser and jacket suit. Such a combination from someone who had so strenously promoted herself as a fashion icon, was seen by many critics to be an odd choice.

1998 Impossible Princess (#10 UK 4/1998, #4 AUS, #73 GE)
(renamed as Kylie Minogue for the UK)
In the United Kingdom, the album was released with the title Kylie Minogue due to the recent death of Diana, Princess of Wales. The album was released on January 5th, 1998 in Australia and on March 23rd, 1998 in Europe.
In late 1995, Minogue drove across the United States and began writing poems and lyrics. These writings would be the basis of the tracks which would appear on the album "Impossible Princess", her most experimental and honest record to date. With inspiration from acclaimed photographer and video director Stephane Sednaoui, and her own experiences as a celebrity, Minogue was able to come up with pages of lyrics and melodies. As work on the album was completed, the results of all this work were displayed with an eclectic and diverse album, from the quick paced juddering sounds of the album's opening of "Too Far", to the indie rock style of "Did It Again", to the deep and orchestral closing of "Dreams", were unlike anything she had ever done. The title of the album came forth from inspiration from a copy of "Poems To Break The Harts Of Impossible Princesses", which instantly struck Minogue. Unfortunately, Minogue would find herself at one of the biggest downtimes of her career with this album.
Despite very positive reviews, the album peaked at number 10 on the British charts, and after four weeks had dropped out of the charts completely, making it the lowest selling album of Minogue's career. In Australia the album reached number two and resurrected her flagging career. It became one of the year's biggest successes. Such was its popularity, that a fourth single, "Cowboy Style" was released, and Minogue embarked on a highly successful concert tour throughout Australia.

"On a Night Like This" was released in September 2000 and debuted at number one on the Australian charts and number two in the UK. The song's release coincided with Minogue's performance at the Sydney Olympic Games where she sang this song.

In October 2000, the duet "Kids" with Robbie Williams (UK) was released. The song, written by Robbie Williams and Guy Chambers, reached number two in the UK. A different version of this song with a spoken fadeout rap by Williams appeared on his album Sing When You're Winning.
"Please Stay" was released in December 2000 and made the top ten in the UK and the top twenty in Australia.
"Your Disco Needs You" became an underground hit whe it was released as a single in Germany and Australia.
